Physicist Klaus Heinz and his son, Mastering Engineer Frederik Knop founded the Berlin-based family business HEDD | Heinz Electrodynamic Designs in October 2015. As acoustic professional and music enthusiast, Heinz’ life oscillates between the worlds of physics and sound. He is the founder of several renowned companies, among them loudspeaker manufacturer ADAM Audio, as whose Managing Director and Head of Research&Development he served for many years. For the past forty years, Klaus Heinz has dedicated himself to developing high-end loudspeakers that have become established constants in diverse fields: from music production processes in professional recording and mastering studios to radio broadcasting, installation and finally home HiFi, his loudspeakers can be found in a great variety of contexts. Despite their application in diverse tonal and professional contexts, Heinz’ loudspeaker designs have always stayed true to the same ideal of sonic excellence: they have, above all, always aimed to produce complete accuracy and outstanding signal fidelity while being less concerned with tinging recording audio material with pleasing tonal colours. It comes, therefore, as no surprise that the product development department at HEDD | Heinz Electrodynamic Designs is fully committed to the idea of creating versatile and surgically precise studio monitors that producers and sound engineers from a wide array of musical branches can use as tools for their audio monitoring processes. HEDD’s loudspeakers can thus be understood as the newest and most advanced products that Klaus Heinz and his team have developed over the years.
Not only are HEDD’s loudspeakers produced in Berlin, they also feature an unprecedented level of digital connectivity (HEDD Bridge), improved diaphragm materials as well as ultra-efficient amplifiers. Last but not least, these brand-new studio monitors take another technological step in the development of the Air Motion Transformer. Years ago, Heinz revolutionised the professional world of audio production by introducing his first Air Motion Transformer. Today, AMT systems are used wherever an extremely precise and vivid reproduction of high frequency material is called for.Visit Site
The Type 05 model is a real multi-tasker. Its strong performance, digital connectivity, and compact size turn it into the ideal choice for mobile broadcast stations, recording studios, multi-channel-setups, and VoIP conferences. The Type 05 is based on a 2-way-system that provides a solid fundament and a high degree of accuracy in the frequency range between 45Hz and 50kHZ by coordinating the interplay between a 6“-woofer and a high-resolution Air Motion Transformer (HEDD AMT).
Type 05 is, like all of our Series ONE studio monitors, additionally equipped with a modular connection system. Besides standard analogue XLR and RCA connections, the Type 05 features an empty card slot that we have specifically designed to read AES3/EBU, Dante, or Ravenna Network (AES67) input cards.
The Type 07 studio monitor could be described as a classic nearfield monitor speaker, although that would not nearly do justice to its versatility and powerful sound. On first glance, this model’s standard size and classic setup with a 7” woofer and a HEDD Air Motion Transformer do not leave much room for additional technological advances. Yet the careful adjustment of its various components, particularly the way in which casing, amplifier, and diaphragm interconnect, creates a degree of sonic stability, strength, spatiality, and transparency that amazed us from the very first stages of this model’s development on. With its 2×100 Watt amps and its extremely well balanced frequency response, the Type 07 monitor sounds much bigger and more mature than its moderate size and sleek design make it appear. It is precisely for this reason that there is hardly a field of audio production, which the Type 07 is not ideally suited for: its clever design makes it an especially good player in broadcasting contexts as well as in recording and mix-down studios.
Our Type 07 studio monitor comes, like all models of our Series ONE, with XLR and RCA connections. In addition, it also features an empty slot that allows for a wider range of digital functionality. At the moment, we offer HEDD Bridge modules that can read and respond to Dante, Ravenna Network / AES67 and AES3/EBU.Reviews Learn more
The HEDD Type 20 is a fully-fledged 3-way-system stuffed into a sleek and small footprint cabinet. It gives you the best of both monitoring worlds: convenient dimensions to easily fit the speakers into compact recording, mastering, or sophisticated home studios and the complete skill set of a full-range midfield monitoring system.
The Type 20 is based around a strong, rubber-coated cabinet, that incorporates our self-designed Honeycomb-sandwich woofers (7“ bass / 4“ midrange) and the HEDD Air Motion Transformer tweeter for the most alive and accurate high frequency reproduction. Three 300W Class-D ICEpower modules work in the amp section of these analog speakers. The sound of this ultra-compact monitor is just magic: pristine, powerful and effortless with all the advantages you get from a dedicated 3-way-system. The Type 20 can be noted for its wonderful clarity in the midrange, offering better dynamics and an increased three-dimensionality across its sound stage. With a frequency spectrum ranging from 50kHz all the way down to 32Hz, the Type 20 can manage the most complex and challenging audio situations. It offers you analog monitoring with digital expansion at the highest level.
The Type 20 incorporates the versatile HEDD Bridge system. Besides standard analogue connections (XLR/RCA), you can insert optional input-cards for AES3-, USB2-, and even Dante / AES67-functionality into the free slot on the back panel of the speaker.Learn more
The HEDD Type 30 is an exceptional midfield monitor that will satisfy all your professional studio needs and desires. Whether as a full range audio monitor in an elegant studio space or in broadcasting contexts, this 3-way-system based monitor is an ideal player in the most diverse fields of application. The impressive technological facts alone speak for themselves: two horizontally aligned 7”-woofers, 4”-mid range woofer, the HEDD Air Motion Transformer tweeter, and nothing less than 4×300 watts amplification create an ultra-wide frequency range from 30Hz to 50khz. In the course of the Type 30’s development, the acoustic accuracy that this constellation of components translates into has fascinated us: in addition to being super solid and having an extremely high fidelity in the bass and mid range reproduction, the HEDD AMT produces vivid and uncoloured high frequency material. Let us assure you: this is one fine piece of gear.
As our two smaller studio monitors, the Type 30 offers XLR and RCA connections as well as a free input-card system that can receive the HEDD Bridge modules that we also offer. These modules are designed to read Dante, Ravenna Network / AES67 protocols as well as AES3/EBU.
With the HEDD Tower Mains, we open up new horizons for full range studio monitoring systems and to what they can do for the sound engineer.
Modern Main Monitoring Systems have to be cost-effective and flexible enough to work in every possible studio environment. That’s why the HEDD Tower Mains were designed with a modular approach in mind. They consist of a main unit (TM80) that can be combined with either 1 or 2 subwoofers (TMS36) per channel. Each sub incorporates 4 drivers in a closed box design and 1200W of amplification. The Tower Mains components can be arranged and used flexibly (as columns or soffit mounted), depending on the size and geometries of the engineer’s working space. Due to a sophisticated filter design, users will always have a seamless transition and homogeneous sound.
The new HEDD Tower Mains let engineers discover what decisive role dynamics play in audio reproduction and how pivotal they are to achieve the highest degree in realism and authenticity.
In common with all other HEDD monitors, the new Tower Mains feature the latest version of Klaus Heinz’ very own tweeter design, the Air Motion Transformer; HEDD Bridge compatibility to connect to a Dante networks and thefree HEDD Lineariser® software plugin that enables the Tower Mains to play with a striking phase linearity of ±1°.Learn more
