Brighton and Hove Albion Celebrate New Stadium

The new season has yet to start and already Brighton & Hove Albion have alot to celebrate, promotion and finally moving into their new stadium - The Falmer Stadium. Known for sponsorship purposes as the American Express Community Stadium, though also often referred to as simply Falmer or The AMEX. Construction on the 22,500 all-seater stadium completed in May 2011 in time for the 2011-12 football season.

Brighton and Hove Albion's original ground (Goldstone Ground) was sold to developers by the club's former board back in 1995, sadly with no new facility arranged. At the end of the 1996-97 season the club finally left it's ground and handed it over to the developers. For the following 2 season's the club played at Gillingham's Preistfield Stadium. Two years later, the club returned to Brighton as tenants of Withdean Stadium, which was upgraded to Football League capacity requirements and later expanded when Brighton reached Division One (now the Football League Championship) in 2002 following two successive promotions.

The site at Falmer was identified during the 1998-99 season and it was hoped that the stadium would be ready in the early to mid-2000s. However, subsequent delays in gaining planning permission meant that the club would have to wait until 2011 before being able to play their home games there.

VCP Services contacted CUK Audio's Stuart Cunningham, back in 2009 to look at the loudspeaker design for the main bowl. Having used Community R2 loudspeakers on previous projects VCP Services were convinced that R2's were the perfect solution for this project. The initial conceptual design was produced by Cunningham using Ulysses acoustic modeling software and utilising Community R2's, R.5-HP's, R.25's and with pitch coverage performed by RSH462's.

As the project developed and one of the UK's leading consulting firms became involved, more detailed acoustic modeling was required. So with CUK Audio's modeling resource swamped with projects for a major event in 2012, the complex modeling was carried out by the technical advise group (TAG) in Community's US headquarters. Although more detailed modeling gave more detailed predictions with regard to the resulting SPL distribution and STi results - the basic design didn't change.

After all parties considered products from numerous manufacturers - the Community solution delivered on all counts and was thus the preferred choice. Now the system is installed - everyone is delighted with it. Delivering SPL's of 104dB, and STi results of 0.5 - 0.6 throughout the main bowl.
